Job Description
The Utica Comets are seeking a radio broadcaster to perform play-by-play duties for all home and away games, as well as someone who will double as a Director of Communications. He/she will fulfill a number of daily communications and public relations duties. The ideal candidate will also be a presence in the community through community appearances, emceeing other Comets/Adirondack Bank Center events, and more. He/she will also be responsible for booking and organizing team travel, accommodations, and acting as a liaison between hockey operations and business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Broadcast all 76 Utica Comets home and away games with both play-by-play and color commentary
- Write all game press releases, game notes, and any additional communications/statistics requirements
- Represent the Comets brand throughout the Mohawk Valley
- Work closely with Community and Communications colleagues to create and implement public relations efforts
- Emcee any required events at the Adirondack Bank Center/in the Utica area
- Emcee all live jersey auctions
- Work with and continue to grow the relationship between the team and our radio partners
- Book travel for the Utica Comets team on all away road trips (bus, air, hotel accommodations)
- Study and maintain a thorough level of knowledge regarding the current Comets roster, player transactions, injuries, AHL news, AHL standings, community endeavors, Adirondack Bank Center events, the Save of the Day Foundation, Utica Jr. Comets, and more
- Assist in the daily maintenance of team statistics and production of game-day notes and press packets for media
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications or a related field
- 3-5 years of broadcasting experience in professional hockey required
- 3+ years of communications experienced a plus
- Thorough knowledge of the sport of hockey, including rules & regulations
- Ability to work non-traditional hours and travel frequently (nights, weekends, & holidays)
- Strong interpersonal skills, outgoing personality, and passion for the sport of hockey a must
- Strong writing, grammar and editing skills
