  • Manage an inventory of security-related items such as hand held metal detectors, cameras, radios, keys and electronic card readers.
  • Assist with the hiring, training and scheduling of Leads, Officers and Supervisors.
  • Provide training and event day oversight for the personnel assigned to the arena’s security command.
  • Act as manager on duty for the Department of Public Safety during events, which includes but is not limited to functioning as top liaison to external departments, making decisions based upon life safety systems and/or arena policies and procedures, as well as overseeing all department staff members.
  • Field calls during and after hours from internal and external departments regarding scheduling and arena and public safety policies and procedures and make informed decisions as a result.
  • Perform all duties related to personnel matters including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, counseling and managing performance, in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Schedule staff and manage personnel records by using a computerized time and attendance system.
  • Prepare staff documents including staff deployment plans, event sign-ups, event notes, schedules, etc.
  • Ensure that staffing levels are appropriate during 24/7 operations and events. Ensure that staffing resources are properly briefed, deployed and redeployed as necessary.
  • Review event documentation and follow-up on various issues.
  • Assist in the arena event planning process and coordinate operations with all arena departments and contractors.
  • Collect and analyze security data to determine security needs or to respond to legal matters.
  •  Monitors and reports on a continual basis all conditions which create security or safety hazards within and surrounding the arena; also makes recommendations regarding prevention techniques, devices or equipment that would correct the hazard.
  • Write or review security-related documents, such as incident reports, proposals and tactical or strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with planning security for special events.
  • Assist with developing budgets for public safety operations.
  • Coordinate public safety operations or activities with public law enforcement, fire and other agencies.
  • Attend seminars, briefings and training sessions and conduct independent research regarding innovation in the realm of security in order to keep the arena’s security equipment, new technologies and policies and procedures ahead of industry standard.
  • Analyze and evaluate public safety operations to identify risks or opportunities for improvement.
  •  Assist with creating and implementing security standards, policies and procedures.
  • Make decisions quickly and decisively while ensuring compliance with laws and arena policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  •  State of Tennessee Security Officer/Guard License.
  • Four (4) year college degree required, preferably in criminal justice or public administration.
  • Four (4) hours (unarmed security) training by state certified trainer.
  • Suitable background & fingerprint check by FBI, TBI, and Metro Police.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, possess a suitable driving history and be insurable by Powers Management’s insurance carrier.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience supervising a group of Event Staff/Security Staff required (stadium, arena, convention center, performing arts facility).
  • Strong, advanced technical skills in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) required. Experience with time management systems, When2Work scheduling software, 24/7 Software system modules, and 24-hour video surveillance systems preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Simultaneously manage a high level of detail across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and quickly adapt to changes while maintaining high levels of productivity and effectiveness under pressure.
  • Work well within a team environment, offering assistance and support to team members whenever necessary.
