The Rehab Pitching Coach is primarily responsible for the on-field rehabilitation process of the organization’s pitchers, including both major league and minor league players, as well as any rehabilitating position player. This individual will assist the Coordinator Rehabilitation on the daily schedule, routine and long-term schedule for players completing the rehabilitation program. The Rehab Pitching Coach will also work with the Minor League Field Coordinators to help blend rehabilitation work into the daily complex schedule. In addition to rehab duties, this individual will report to and aid the Lead Strategist – Pitching Development in the application of biomechanics, velocity and command training and assist with all AZ-based pitching special projects.  Residence in Phoenix, AZ is required.

  • Partner with Coordinator Rehab and Lead Strategist – Pitching Development to facilitate and implement evidence-based rehabilitation throwing protocols and return to play progressions.
  • Serve as an integral part of the rehabilitation department and collaborate with physical therapists, athletic trainers, performance psychology staff, and strength and conditioning specialists to drive on-field outcomes.
  • Establish clear and direct pathways of communication between Player Development and Player Health to optimize return to play outcomes.
  • Contribute to individual rehabilitation plans for all pitchers and position players in Arizona – in conjunction with minor league pitching coordinators, provide throwing drill prescriptions as necessary and document an end-to-end rehabilitation process.
  • Act as the lead instructor for all on-field rehabilitation programming including serving as a resource for any player using an off-site or third-party facility to conduct their rehab program.
  • Partner with Performance Science to implement and oversee pitching biomechanics integration and feedback loops for rehabilitating pitchers that support player development philosophies.
  • Oversee all off-season velocity and command programming, as approved by Minor League Pitching Coordinator and Lead Strategist – Pitching Development.
  • Identify and leverage data, technology, and scientific development to improve and maintain the health and performance of the organization’s players.
  • Throw batting practice and hit fungoes to rehabilitating position players, as needed.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  •  Strong foundation in the implementation of pitching and player development principles.
  • Track record of technical skill development as it relates to pitching.
  • Working comprehension of skill acquisition principles as it relates to baseball skill development.
  • Able to build strong interpersonal relationships with skill coaches, players, department heads and senior leadership.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and exhibit the capability to multi-task effectively.
  • Proficiency with various baseball player development tools including but not limited to; ball and bat tracking technology, high speed video cameras, and biomechanics reports/movement screens is preferred.
