 Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting in all tasks pertinent to the day-to-day operations in the Cubs media relations department. This person will be the main contact and decisionmaker when it comes to counseling Spanish-speaking players and staff in interactions with media, both English and Spanish language. Will serve as one of the department’s writers, assisting with the Cubs’ daily game notes, press releases and the annual media guides.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Use sound judgement as the main media relations representative providing counsel and translation for Spanish-speaking players/staff pre- and post-game, as well as certain player appearances
  • Be the lead in the department when making key decisions regarding approval of Spanish speaking media requests for players and staff
  • Assist in writing, editing and researching information for the club’s annual information guide and post-season guide, continuously updating the living history of the Chicago Cubs in order to quickly respond to internal and external inquiries for information
  • Work with others within the Cubs business and baseball operations departments to translate documents, memos, social media posts and other materials from English to Spanish
  • Independently research and create relevant daily content in the form of writing, editing and distributing the club’s daily pre-game and post-game notes and breaking news press releases. Craft baseline content for broadcasters, electronic and print media
  • Perform special projects as needed by the Director of Media Relations and Manager of Media Relations, requiring non-traditional hours, nights and weekends
  • Travel with the team on most, if not all, road trips during the season and to Mesa, Arizona for Spring Training

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • 4-year undergraduate degree from an accredited university in print journalism, public relations or communications
  • Minimum of two seasons of experience working in professional baseball
  • Ability to work a non-standard schedule, to include nights and weekends, as well as travel when required during Spring Training, regular season and postseason
  • Ability to read, write, speak and translate Spanish fluently
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the organization's history, baseball history and statistics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of media and ability to work productively and positively with media and internal departments
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills
