D.C. United are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual to serve as the club’s Corporate Communications Specialist. In this role, you will help guide the club’s media relations effort on the business-side to help support the holistic story of D.C. United, as well as the rapidly growing Audi Field event business. This will include proactive and reactive media relations related to matchday activations, community relations, ticketing and marketing, partnerships and brand engagement, executive thought leadership opportunities, and more. This position will play a leading role in establishing Audi Field as a premier event destination in the Nation’s Capital.

This role will report to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the primary media contact for business operations and non-soccer activities, including community engagement, business development, partnership activations, and executive thought leadership opportunities
  • Drive earned publicity to tell the holistic story of D.C. United and Audi Field
  • Serve as the main contact for media in relation to D.C. United club business and Audi Field businesses
  • Develop and manage relationships with local, national, and international media
  • Lead and write club press releases, media advisories, and additional communications
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and execute proactive corporate communications strategies that help achieve organizational goals
  • Analyze performance metrics on media activities and publicity, use findings to adjust and better position the club for success
  • Assist as needed with soccer-related media functions, such as press conferences and availabilities
  • Collaborate with members of the Communications and Marketing team, including designers, videographers, and photographers to develop highly engaging and interesting content for media relations activities
  • Support internal departments, like Human Resources, with developing written content and messaging for all-staff communications
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends for matchdays

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • 2+ years’ experience in similar field of work
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferably communications or journalism
  • Solid public and media relations experience with a proven ability to earn positive media coverage at the local, regional, national, and international levels
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills, as well as strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate strong media contacts and relationships
  • Understanding of the importance of metrics and their value in determining the impact of communications
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills, plus proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize activities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good communicator and team player who enjoys collaborating cross-functionally and with outside partners
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, particularly on matchdays
  • Working knowledge of soccer and familiarity with Major League Soccer
  • Must be willing to travel as needed
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 required
