Job Description
The Kansas City Current is seeking a Communications & Public Relations Intern. They will receive real world professional sports experience writing, editing and publishing content for the club's various communications platforms. Tasks will include assisting with the day-to-day operations of the department as it serves as the new bureau and media conduit for the club.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- General department support including daily clips execution and administrative duties
- Composing and editing press releases
- Produce a variety of content over the club’s digital platforms
- Write, edit and post articles for the team website
- Gather quotes from players and coaches
- Sit in on practice, game and other press conferences and transcribe quotes following
- Research and organize stats before and after games
- Build and edit match notes
- Assist with media responsibilities and daily promotion of the organizational brand
- Assist in the development of the team media guide
- Write, edit update and post player bios
Qualifications Required
- Superior writing, editing, proofreading and communication skills including proficiency in AP style supported by at least two writing samples.
- Interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism
- Available 20-25 hours per week, including nights, weekends and match days
- Demonstrated writing and grammar proficiency
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism within a professional sports environment and in media work zones
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Detail-oriented
- Familiarity with sports communication, preferably soccer-specific
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment
- Availability to occasionally work long hours and handle some light physical activity
- Experience with InDesign, HootSuite and/or Sprout Social a plus
