 Job Description

Under direct supervision by the Head of Strength and Conditioning provides: collaborative program design, planning, execution and supervision of periodization plans and player training programs for the Okanagan Hockey Academy.

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and in collaboration with the Head of Athletic Therapy and Combine testing staff, executes OHA fitness testing 3 times/season
  • Leads off ice workouts including gym, dryland training and other conditioning programs as directed by the Head Strength and Condition Coach
  • Responsible for collaborative development of both the winter/summer break conditioning  programs for each team
  • Responsible for the collaborative development of both new and returning players’ summer conditioning programs
  • Ensures the proper maintenance and general upkeep of all fitness equipment in both Performance and Speed Centres
  • Follows emergency care procedures including concussion protocol as outlined by OHG
  • Maintain comprehensive training records for all athletes
  • Liaises with the Athletic Therapists, Hockey Coaches and other OHA staff regarding the medical condition of athletes
  • Assists with equipment management including skate sharpening, laundry, and other duties as required

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • Knowledgeable in strength and conditioning techniques for adolescent athletes
  • Ability to lead and guide adolescent athletes and create an environment that encourages athletes to reach their potential
  • Knowledgeable in effective injury prevention and risk management protocols
  • Knowledgeable of techniques facilitating a safe return to participation following injury
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to staff, athletes, parents and other personnel
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer programs
  • Must maintain all qualifications, certifications and continued professional development
  • Ability to follow the philosophies, policies and procedures of Okanagan Hockey Group
