 Job Description

The Chicago White Sox Accounting team is seeking an Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate should  be resourceful, detail oriented, adaptable, and a great team player. The candidate should have a thorough understanding of financial reporting and a willingness to learn about accounting for a professional sports team.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee Accounts Payable process and supervise A/P staff
  • Perform monthly detailed review of balance sheet accounts, and manage month-end close process
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Manage annual financial statement audit by preparing reconciling worksheets and providing backup to auditors
  • Coordinate annual tax return process with external tax preparers, including preparing tax journal entries and supporting schedules
  • Manage, track, and accurately report on fixed assets and related depreciation
  • Support annual budgeting process and perform monthly review of budget to actual results
  • Assist in implementation of new accounting ERP
  • Responsible for other annual reporting, including, but not limited to census submissions, state and local tax reporting, etc.
  • Analyze financial information and perform ad hoc projects as necessary
  • Suggest ways to improve processes and increase efficiency
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain internal controls
  • Maintain expense reporting program and serve as key resource for employees throughout organization

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • A four-year undergraduate degree in accounting from an accredited university or college
  • 5+ years relevant experience with a mix of industry and public accounting a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion on a daily basis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, Sage 500 and/or Netsuite experience a plus
  • Ability to work on site 5 days a week
  • Prior experience should include staff management, compilation of financial statements, general ledger accounting, balance sheet account reconciliation, and interaction with external auditors or participation on external audit engagements
