The Sound Wave Co-Director, Music & Performance is responsible for developing and teaching the music, choreography, and arrangement of the band to ensure Sounders FC’s team band, Sound Wave, positively represents the club’s brand and values on home matchdays and while performing in the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Conduct auditions and hire musicians for open positions within the band, alongside the Sound Wave Co-Director, Administration and Sounders FC Front Office
  • Responsible for leading all performance aspects of the band - including arranging new music, development of choreography, and leading rehearsals.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Game Presentation on details of all performances (both matchday and non-matchday), including song selection
  • Work together with the Manager of Game Presentation and Sound Wave Leads to create the music/choreography schedule each season.
  • Set and maintain performance expectations.
  • Attend Sound Wave Lead meetings throughout the season, contributing changes and recommendations for the group.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications Required

  • 3+ years minimum of experience leading a music ensemble.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically and make quick judgement calls under pressure.
  • A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong attention to organization, detail, accuracy; often working within strict timing and cues.
  • Exercise mature judgment and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective music instruction, principals, practices, and trends.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret music, with proven experience arranging songs.
  • Knowledge, experience, and background in teaching instrumental music ensembles.
