Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Assistant Athletic Therapist to join the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Club within the National Hockey League (NHL). The successful candidate will work closely with our Head Athletic Therapist and the rest of the High Performance Team to provide comprehensive care to our professional athletes, ensuring their optimal physical health and performance throughout the season.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of NHL Medical Standards Handbook.
- Complete all necessary paperwork to be compliant with NHL protocols.
- Daily input of information into league athlete health monitoring system and team based athlete management system.
- Maintaining appropriate inventory.
- Assistance with all Pre-Participation Medical Exams and Exit Medicals
Bench Coverage:
- Act as the secondary athletic therapist providing bench coverage during all games, practices and reconditioning sessions in accordance with league policy.
- Provide primary first response and emergency care coverage from the bench during all games, morning skates, practices and return to play skates.
Therapy:
- Provide general athletic therapy duties including taping, bracing, fitting, wound management etc.
- Collaborate with the Head Athletic Therapist, Rehabilitation therapist or Performance Therapist to provide therapy to athletes, when appropriate.

Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Certification as a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C)) or equivalent certification from a recognized governing body (e.g., CATA, NATABOC).
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working as an athletic therapist in a professional sports environment, preferably within hockey or a similar high-performance sport.
- Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics, and exercise physiology.
- Proficiency in soft tissue-based treatment (ART, Graston), Cupping, Shockwave, intramuscular stimulation (IMS) etc.
- Proficiency in conducting on-field assessments, injury evaluations, and emergency medical procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with athletes, coaches, and medical staff.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic sports environment.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate team travel and game schedules.
