The roots of the Lexington Counter Clocks trace back to the year 2001 when the Class-A Kissimmee Cobras relocated from the Florida State League to Lexington and became the Lexington Legends. Led by manager J. J. Cannon, the Legends had an outstanding inaugural season, finishing with a remarkable record of 92 wins and 48 losses. They secured the top spot in the South Atlantic League and advanced to the League Championship Series. Unfortunately, the tragic events of September 11, 2001, led to the cancellation of the series, and the Legends were declared co-champions after winning the first two games.
Building a Legacy
The Legends continued to make their mark in subsequent seasons. Under the leadership of manager Tim Bogar in 2005, the team posted an impressive regular-season record of 81 wins and 58 losses, finishing in first place. This success propelled them to the playoffs once again, demonstrating their consistency and competitiveness.
Roger Clemens’ Return
In 2006, the Legends made headlines when legendary pitcher Roger Clemens came out of retirement to join the team. Clemens, who had come to support his son Koby Clemens, showcased his skills on the mound once again. In his first game, he threw 62 pitches, allowing only one run and striking out six batters.
