Governed by a dedicated Board of Directors, OBA strategically steers its operations. Supported by both professional staff and volunteer committees, the organization diligently executes its daily tasks to fulfill OBA's mission and cater to its extensive community, which encompasses 185 member clubs and nearly 50,000 players, coaches, and administrators.
OBA's overarching objective revolves around nurturing basketball development across Ontario. Through a spectrum of programs and services meticulously tailored to meet the evolving needs of the provincial, national, and global basketball landscape, OBA aligns its efforts with the principles of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L). OBA remains committed to fostering participants' growth at every stage, from fostering physical literacy to nurturing high-performance athletes and facilitating lifelong engagement as players, coaches, officials, and administrators.
Collaborating with key stakeholders such as Canada Basketball, provincial and territorial basketball bodies, and esteemed entities like the Toronto Raptors, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), and NBA Canada, OBA synergizes efforts to promote and elevate basketball throughout the province.
Our Endeavors
Ontario Basketball's endeavors are structured around four core pillars: Clubs & Competitions, High Performance, Basketball Development, and Coaching & Officiating.
Under Clubs and Competitions:
Ontario Basketball League (OBL): A comprehensive provincial league framework accommodating male and female athletes aged U10 to U19, offering competitive opportunities across four divisions: OBLX, AAA, AA, and A.
Provincial Championships and Ontario Cup: Season-culminating events held across Ontario, providing a platform for athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers to advance their skills and experiences.
Ontario Qualification for Jr. NBA Global Championship: A pathway for top-performing U14 male and female teams to compete at the Jr. NBA Global Championship, representing Canada on the international stage.
Within High Performance:
Team Ontario: Selecting elite U15 and U17 male and female athletes to represent Ontario at national championships and the Canada Summer Games.
Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA): A partnership fostering high-performance basketball experiences for high school athletes through specialized schedules and competitive platforms.
Targeted Athlete Strategy: Offering personalized support to the top 20 male and female athletes in Ontario to maximize their potential.
Centre for Performance: Collaborating with Canada Basketball to cultivate student-athletes capable of competing at the highest international levels.
In Basketball Development:
Mega Hoops: A flagship program focusing on fundamental movement and basketball skills development for young athletes aged 0-12.
Ontario Summer Development Program (OSDP): A summer camp-style initiative providing athletes aged 12 to 14 with opportunities for holistic development.
Jr. NBA Youth Basketball: A national program fostering fun, active, and healthy basketball experiences for children aged 5 to 12, supported by comprehensive program materials and coach training.
Through these multifaceted initiatives, Ontario Basketball Association remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity, and advancing the sport of basketball across the province.
