By 1984, a thriving 48-team pickleball league was established on these rooftop courts, signaling the game's growing popularity.
The formal organization of pickleball in Canada began to take shape in the early 2000s. Marcel Lemieux and his wife, Louise Barette, played pivotal roles in introducing pickleball to the province of Quebec. In 2009, they founded the Quebec Pickleball Federation, laying the groundwork for organized play and development initiatives in the region. Marcel Lemieux's continued involvement in promoting pickleball further solidified its presence in Quebec.
The establishment of Pickleball Canada in April 2009 marked a significant turning point for the sport nationwide. Initially known as the Canadian National Pickleball Association, it later adopted the name Pickleball Canada Organization. With the creation of Pickleball Canada, the sport gained a centralized body dedicated to its promotion, development, and governance across the country.
