Job Description

We're in search of a creative and skilled individual with demonstrated project management experience, expertise in sports and recreation, and knowledge of an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) process. This individual will spearhead the user consultation, building, and design process with a focus on the end-user perspective for the upcoming construction of the new Kitchener indoor recreation complex at RBJ Schlegel Park.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building strong relationships with staff, sports groups, and customers to understand and prioritize needs.
  • Ensuring the indoor recreation complex is inclusive and multifunctional, meeting all user requirements.
  • Participating in the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team to represent operational and customer priorities.
  • Working with various stakeholders to ensure compliance, best practices, and creative design features.
  • Serving as a liaison between internal divisions to create a holistic community space.
  • Developing a sustainable operating model, staffing plan, and budget.
  • Collaborating on communication and community engagement strategies.
  • Organizing public engagement processes and coordinating feedback.
  • Writing reports and presentations for City Council related to user needs and operating models for the facility.

Qualifications Required

  • 3-year degree/diploma
  • Minimum 4 – 7 years direct experience leading and managing complex projects.
  • Minimum 1 year direct experience managing a project run through Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of sport and recreation programming and facility utilization.
    • Knowledge of user experience and design processes and best practices.
    • Experience working for a municipality.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply project management processes, principles, and theories to manage the lifecycle of projects to ensure scope, schedule and budget are maintained.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute a project plan that collaboratively engages a variety of stakeholders while ensuring project timelines are met.
  • Ability to communicate with discretion and professionalism to protect confidential information.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills to deliberate contract details.
  • Planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in community engagement best practices.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully completing projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Superior written, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and maintain relationships.
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer using software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint.
