The Second Assistant Athletic Trainer assists in managing the day-to-day sports medicine operations for the Chicago Red Stars NWSL team. In this capacity, the Second Assistant Athletic Trainer provides injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment, Physiotherapy, and rehabilitation for female athletes. The Second Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the direction and supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of High Performance & Medical. The ideal candidate will have a passion and enthusiasm for being part of a team of coaches, players, and support staff; all with diverse and unique backgrounds. The candidate will thrive in a club environment and demonstrate a commitment to continual refinement and improvement of our team mission and vision to meet the ongoing performance demands of the organization.
Responsibilities
  • Perform at the highest as a Certified Athletic Trainer in managing the healthcare and acute medical needs of the Chicago Red Stars Players. This includes first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, and development of rehabilitation and prevention programs.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team including the Chief Medical Officer, Director of High Performance & Medical, Head of Performance, Head Athletic Trainer, Dietician, Physical Therapists, Massage Therapist and Sport Scientist.
  • Collaborate with the medical staff to program and assist through all phases of athlete rehabilitation and return-to-play scenarios at the highest level of care for female athletes.
  • Identify all injury and illness risk factors associated with participation in a competitive soccer environment and report to the supervisor.
  • Comply with team and league medical policies, protocols, and game-day operation manuals.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in managing and delegating the daily operational tasks in the Athletic Training Room
  • Attend and monitor all NWSL team activities in preseason, regular season, and post-season, including home and away games.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in maintaining timely and detailed records of all athletes in the league-provided electronic medical record system.

Qualifications Required

  • Advanced certification/experience in exercise prescription, return-to-play assessments or manual therapy
  • Minimum of two years of certified experience in the field of Athletic Training
  • Previous experience working with elite athletes in a team sport environment, preferably soccer
  • Other pertinent certifications, and methods related to healthcare and well-being of athletes, including but not limited to dry needling certification, CSCS, CPSS, etc
  • Current CPR &AED certification
