Job Description

The Communications Coordinator will work with the communications team to develop a strategy to increase media coverage and build the club's narrative. The person will be expected to develop strong relationships with players, coaches, and executives, along with the local, national, and international media. In addition, the Communications Coordinator will work closely with the club beat writers, Apple TV, broadcast talent, and production talent. This person will assist with the content creation for Apple TV, social media, and team publications. The communications team will also handle incoming interview requests for players, coaches, and executives, while also pitching business and on-field story ideas to the media about the club. This person will serve as a travel contact for the team and write game notes, press releases and game day information. This person must be coachable. They will report to the Director of Communications.

Qualifications Required

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with PR opportunities for the organization, including both soccer and non-soccer specific stories.
  • Write and edit press releases, weekly notes, game notes, etc.
  • Serve as a contact for day-to-day media inquiries.
  • Help local and national broadcasters and provide them with key information about the Earthquakes.
  • Build/maintain relationships with the local media; beat reporters who cover the Earthquakes; and national and international soccer media.
  • Assist with content creation for Apple TV, the team website, and social media channels as needed - articles, blogs, video, and photos (create and publish web pages).
  • Attend content meetings with marketing and digital staff.
  • Work with the communications staff to proactively reach out to the media about coverage opportunities; including practice, pre-game stories, game stories, community relations events, etc.
  • Help track all media coverage and present monthly reports to the executive team, while creating ad hoc reports following big campaigns.
  • Oversee game day press operations along with the communications staff.
  • Work game days (press operations set-up, write game recaps, obtain player quotes, social media posts, digital content, etc.).
  • Serve as the communications representative on road trips and at pre-season training camps.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree
  • At least two years of public relations experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays.
