Job Description

This is a full-time role in San Diego, California. Depending upon education, skill set, and experience, the annual base salary range is $120K - $150K.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Medical Team Leadership: Lead and manage the medical team, including physical therapist, athletic trainers, and other medical personnel, ensuring a collaborative, and effective approach to player care.
  2. Injury Prevention and Management: In conjunction with the team physical therapist and athletic trainers, continue to grow and refine the comprehensive injury prevention program, including pre-season screenings, individualized performance preparation programing, and daily injury risk assessments.
  3. Physical Therapy: Oversee and assist in the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions of players. Coordinate evaluations, rehabilitation, plan of care, progress notes, and discharge notes on all players. These notes must be kept on file in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  4. Injury Diagnosis and Treatment: Oversee the timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment of player injuries, collaborating with Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainers, team physicians and specialists as needed.
  5. Return to Sport: Oversee the return to play/sport process for injured players, developing individualized treatment plans and monitoring progress to ensure a safe and efficient reintegration into training, games and eventually performance while mitigating risk of re-injury.   6. Sports Science Integration: Work closely with the sports science department to integrate data-driven approaches to injury prevention, performance optimization, and recovery strategies.

Qualifications Required

  • National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE)
  • California state license; in good standing with the state licensure board
  • CPR certification in basic life support
  • Residency trained
  • Board certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) or Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS)
  • Additional recommended certifications: BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Corrective Exercise Specialization (NASM-CES) and/or Performance Enhancement Specialization (NASM-PES)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sports medicine, with a focus on professional or elite-level athletes.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a physical therapist since receiving licensure
  • Master’s degree (MPT) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT)
