 The Broadcast and Media Relations Manager will be tasked with directing and guiding all aspects of the organization’s digital productions and play-by-play duties, while growing Ignite Sports and Entertainment in the local community. This role will serve as the voice and on-air presence, handling all play-by-play for the Columbus River Dragons Hockey, Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots Baseball teams, and, if needed, events held at Columbus’s Golden Park, through our four-station radio network and televised games through over the air tv, cable and internet broadcasts. Broadcasts also include a weekly TV/Radio coaches show and other planned broadcast projects. This position also allows the opportunity to increase compensation through the sales of sponsorships and group tickets. The Broadcast and Media Relations Manager requires a candidate that will take a hands-on approach to getting the job done and broad technology experience is required to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Serve as lead play-by-play announcer for all home and away games for the Columbus River Dragons and the Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots, and where necessary, other organization events
  • Plan and produce all weekly coaches shows, as well as any other production projects that are planned
  • Function as the day-to-day contact between the team and the media, spearheading all aspects of the relationship
  • Prospect new company sponsorship sales, as well as group ticket sales
  • Schedule and maintain travel plans for team’s road games
  • Responsible for authoring official game notes, video highlights, stats packages, press releases, and other relevant media game day materials
  • Author and oversee all compliance with league documents and any statistical corrections
  • Manage all data and content on the organization’s front-facing team websites
  • Coordinate interviews between players and members of the press
  • Oversee broadcast, staffing, and media relations/credentials operations for all home events
  • Assist Social Media Manager with providing exclusive, authentic, compelling, and engaging commentary to our fans, as well as creating new content to grow the fan base
  • Provide compelling insight and analysis during scheduled appearances on external local/national tv/radio outlets
  • In conjunction with the Events Manager, this position will be expected to arrange speaking engagements and emcee team appearances, as well as find additional events to help drive our brand
  • Produce videos, interviews, and other projects for our YouTube Channels, game facilities and other applicable media outlets, as well as social media platforms
  • Direct production scheduling and execution of all media and game night programs, as well as internal and external commercials
  • Supervise all training, and assigning of media and broadcast interns
  • Generate new ideas to help strengthen the brand and team’s broader appeal, attending and supervising in-person events, when needed
  • Set up and break down events, interact with the public, work across departments, and communicate effectively with all parties involved in the planning and execution process
  • Contribute to all company aspects on an “as needed” basis

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • Prefer a candidate with 2+ years of progressive professional experience in broadcasting hockey/baseball, communications, and content creation
  • Organizational, multitasking, and analytical skills are a necessity
  • Well-developed time management, organizational, and follow-through skills
  • Innovative, with the ability to think on one’s feet both creatively and critically
  • Must be personable and possesses superb communication skills
  • Proven work experience in sales and events or similar role is a plus
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to deliver creative content
  • Ability to gasp future trends and act proactively
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and time management skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign a plus
