 Job Description

To scout the specified territory and evaluate all talent.  Recommend and sign quality major league prospects for the organization.

Responsibilities include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Be responsible for all baseball-related activity that takes place in the territory
  • Build and maintain relationships with players, families, coaches, and advisors in the area
  • Evaluate draft eligible players and accurately determine their sign ability
  • Collect, upload, and process video and data on draft eligible players
  • Communicate changes to schedules and player status
  • Complete assigned professional scouting coverage
  • Prepare draft eligible list and preference list for June Draft
  • Ability to write scouting reports via in-person and video coverage
  • Complete coverage of all players of interest in the area including those flagged by the Front Office
  • Attend all necessary games, workouts, tournaments, and showcases in territory
  • Assist supervisor and other scouting personnel in coordinating their respective visits to the specified territory to maximize quality viewing of top players

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Some college education preferred.  Extensive background experience that can translate into the area of scouting
  • Reasonable amount of baseball related experience. Prior scouting experience preferred
  • Ability to evaluate amateur and professional baseball talent at all levels
  • Very good language skills required including ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with regional supervisors and front office staff, players, their families, coaches and administrators
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, Email communication, web-based applications
  • Individual must have ability to operate a video camera and to process and upload video
  • Have a valid drivers license.

Education and/or Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; minimum of 3 years related experience and/or related training in the field of scouting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
