 Job Description

The Boston Red Sox are seeking a talented self-starter with a background and interest in cloud data architecture to join the organization’s Business Analytics & Intelligence team as a Data Engineering Associate. This role will be responsible for supporting the Red Sox data architecture and business intelligence teams on a daily basis by helping oversee the organization’s Google Cloud Platform customer data warehouse. This role will learn from and partner with key Red Sox personnel to become an expert on the organization’s data environment, providing daily support for departments such as ticketing, sales, marketing, and business operations. While this is an associate role that runs until the end of 2023, there is an opportunity for this role to extend further based on performance, either via an extension of the associate role or as a full-time data engineer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Help oversee and support our existing GCP customer data environment
  • Monitor and fix issues as they arise, reducing and eliminating outages for downstream users
  • Add new data sources to BigQuery as needed by the business
  • Develop a detailed understanding of current BigQuery data warehouse and dbt models
  • Support key internal personnel, especially the data architect, on a daily basis by taking workflows off of their plates
  • Work with key vendors to help facilitate knowledge transfer to internal sources
  • Stay up-to-date on modern trends and solutions in the cloud data architecture space by pursuing educational opportunities both internally and externally
  • Support the larger departmental objective of driving data-driven decision-making at the Boston Red Sox

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • Familiarity with cloud-based customer data warehouses and data lakes, with exposure to GCP/BigQuery a plus
  • Previous professional experience maintaining and supporting a complex data environments
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire and aptitude to learn new topics and tools
  • A passion for solving unstructured problems and the ability to take projects from start to finish under tight timelines
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with a variety of internal partners and stakeholders
