The Analytics department will provide key insights and supporting data for existing initiatives, as well as special projects that utilize data-driven recommendations to support growth. In this role, the Associate Data Engineer will scope out and assist in building new integrations while also handling a number of day-to-day automated reports. The ideal candidate for this role will have a robust technical background, advanced analytical skills, a solid understanding of data architecture, and be willing to dig deep into relevant databases to resolve problems, identify key trends, and leverage data to drive towards insights. This individual will play a pivotal role in this group’s delivery of value to the Coyotes organization, from a position with substantial opportunities for growth and professional development.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in designing and connecting various data sources to the club’s data warehouse in order to automate processes across business units.
  • Writing ETL processes, designing database systems, and developing tools for real-time analytics processing
  • Using programming skills in Python to build robust data pipelines and dynamic systems
  • Building and optimizing big data pipelines, architectures, and datasets, leveraging a combination of SaaS and custom-build solutions
  • Integrating data from a variety of sources, assuring that they adhere to data quality and accessibility standards
  • Work with data warehouse vendor to ensure data timeliness and accuracy while identifying new sources for integration.
  • Building timely and compelling dashboards and visualizations for key partners via various data visualization platforms
  • Working closely with third party partners to troubleshoot technical issues and to find opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of software/database best practices, and make recommendations on improvement of data systems
  • Document various data warehouse sources and workflows
  • Support other ongoing business projects and priorities within and involving the Arizona Coyotes on an ad-hoc basis as needed

Qualifications RequiredQualifications Required

  • Advanced technical skillset including R, Python, SQL, with a preference for those functions at a prior employer within the Media, Entertainment, and Sports industry
  • Knowledge in Python and Relational Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills within and across internal teams and 3rd party providers
  • A natural curiosity about technology as well as a creative and risk-taking mentality
  • Advanced SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases as well as familiarity with a variety of database technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redshift)
  • Extensive experience of ETL development, processes, and pipelines including data administration, manipulation, data pipeline engineering, data processing automation, data validation, and data preparation
  • Ability to automate data pipelines using cloud technologies such as AWS and/or GCP
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly resourceful and disciplined, with strong emotional intelligence and self-motivation
  • Comfort with and disciplined to manage highly sensitive confidential information
  • Willingness for infrequent domestic travel and occasional game day/night attendance at home games during the season
